'Seaside Explorers' 

 

We have lots of fun, curriculum linked activities planned for this term based around the Seaside theme.

 

Welsh Sentence Patterns

Summer Term - ‘Explorers at the Seaside’

Termly Topic –This term our topic is ‘Explorers at the Seaside’. This topic contains lots of opportunities for your child to learn about the seaside.  Please see medium-term planning overview below for some examples of the learning that will be taking place. Further details of trips and visitors will be sent home later in the term. This terms home task is to create something that could be found on the beach, in the sea or at the seaside out of recycled materials, as we are a Platinum Eco school, for our topic wall display. You can be as creative as you wish 😊. We look forward to seeing your creations – Happy Creating.

Spring Term – Class 2

 

Welcome back to the Spring Term. I hope that you all had a relaxing Christmas with your children. Having read most of the children's diaries it appears that lots of you have had a fun and action packed break.  I would like to thank parents for their generosity and appreciated all the Christmas gifts.

 

As you can see from the photos, the children  participated in numerous indoor and outdoor activities last term. I would like to give thanks to guest speakers and parents who have helped to enhance our learning, linking cross curricular activities with four core purposes.

Core purposes to support children to be:

- ambitious, capable learners, ready to learn throughout their lives

- enterprising, creative contributors, ready to play a full part in life and work

- ethical, informed citizens of Wales and the world

- healthy, confident individuals, ready to lead fulfilling lives as valued members of society.

 

I appreciate parents who are supporting children at home. One of the main priorities in class 2 is reading at home.

 

Talking of reading...

Each child has a reading book. To support staff to know what books they have read you can just write the book title, add comments about how your child did or just squiggle your signature to confirm that daily reading is going on. We really appreciate your partnership here as it will accelerate your child's reading skill hugely if they share a book with you every day. Diolch yn fawr for your continued support.

 

 

 

For those parents who couldn’t attend parent’s evenings the main priorities that we would like you to focus on are:

  • Reading – you to them, them to you- anything and everything! Read every day, little and often

  • Forming letters, starting from the correct starting points.

  • Learning Read Write Inc. sounds which will support your child’s ability to blend words. (use Fred Talk and Fingers to support blending and spelling- see RWI leaflet in class pack)

    1. Counting on and back from different starting points. 
  • 2. Doubling and halving.
  • 3. Instant Recall of the Big Maths – Learn Its, switchers and fact families.
  • 4. Counting in 2s, 5s and 10s.
  • 5. Number bonds to 10
  • 6. Identifying coins and finding change from 10p and 20p.
  • 7. Telling the time – O’clock, half past, quarter to and quarter past. 
  • 8. Problem Solving 
  • In Maths we have been continuing our work on addition, moving from pictorial representations to writing and completing number sentences.                                                                                                                                                                                  Celebrate you child’s achievements no matter how big or small. Support them with social skills and resilience. Our class moto “PRACTICE MAKES PROGRESS!!!!” this is a key to embracing challenges and overcoming difficulties.

Class Routines

Further ways to help your child:

 

  • Please ensure your child has their school P.E. kit every Tuesday and Thursday but keep it in school until the end of term just incase we need it for any other sessions.
  • Please return homework folders every Monday, these will be returned every Thursday.
  • Encourage your child to reinforce the skills they have been learning at school by helping them to complete their homework and reading books etc.
  • Bring in reading books on a daily basis as we have no set day for reading.
  • Please practise regularly reading the list of Read Write Inc red words (tricky words) with your child both reading and spelling. These are hugely important and will benefit your child’s reading immensely. Also, please encourage your child to read their book with expression, pointing out the punctuation.
  • Please ensure your child has suitable footwear in school for our outdoor topic work and appropriate weather proof clothing and sun cream etc, which is clearly marked with their name as they will be engaging in the outdoors every day.
  • Please ensure all of your child’s uniform is clearly marked with their name.
  • Please ensure your child has a healthy snack for morning play time and also a drink for throughout the day (not squash). As we are a healthy school, we do not allow chocolate, crisps or biscuits at morning play. Drink bottles and snack boxes should be clearly labelled. We have a child with a nut allergy so please refrain from bringing food containing nuts into school.
  • Please check your child has their bag with them every day and please check the contents on a daily basis for correspondence from school..
