We hope you have had a lovely summer and are looking forward to the new term. This is an exciting time for you and your child with lots of changes ahead. 22/10/2021

We have reached the end of our first half term. We have added recordings of our class Harvest songs to the files section of our class team.

 

After half term we are planning on having a pumpkin smash to recycle the pumpkins so could you please bring in your used pumpkins and wellies for your child on Thursday 4th November.

 

Please remember to read and practice sounds whenever you get a chance – little and often makes the biggest impact.

This week we have been completing cross curricular activities relating to Hickory Dickory Dock. We have also been practising our counting, sounds and reading. Please continue to practise these skills at home.

We have had some lovely creative tasks in and they look amazing on our wall. If you have not yet sent one in there is still time. ๐Ÿ˜Š

24/09/21

This week we have been taking part in activities relating to Bike to School week. We have also been learning about the importance of handwashing and used the germ buster machine to check that we had washed our hands properly.  We have also been practising our counting skills and finding objects to match the numbers on the cards along with learning our sounds.

 

Can you please make sure that you send in reading books every day along with making sure that names are written on all of their belongings.

 

We are looking forward to receiving the creative home tasks for our wall so please send them in as soon as possible. Should you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask.

We have reached the end of another busy week. Our new children have enjoyed staying for lunch and are looking forward to staying for full days from next week.

 

Next week is Bike to School week so if possible, could they bike or scoot to school. We understand that this is not possible for some families.

 

We have also uploaded our Autumn term homework jigsaw to our Microsoft class team too.

It has been lovely to welcome back last years Nursery along with our new children. The children are settling in well and are having fun exploring their new surroundings. We have sent home a pack today with more information on our class routines along with passwords for the children to access our online platforms. We have also included an advice sheet on how to access our class Teams page.

 

Next week the Nursery children will be staying for lunch and will need to be collected at 12:45.

We have reached the end of another strange school year. All the children have been amazing and we have enjoyed watching them develop and grow.

 

We would like to wish all of our reception children good luck as they embark on their next adventure and look forward to welcoming our current nursery children back in September.

This week we have based our cross curricular activities around the story of the Ugly Duckling and have been reminding ourselves how unkind words and actions make us feel. We also took the opportunity to reflect on this year and the changes that lie ahead. We reminded ourselves that we are all amazing!

 

We enjoyed learning some new Welsh songs relating to Urdd -Jambori: Ar Goll yng Nglan-llyn and had great fun making up dances and also used the musical instruments to accompany them.

This week we have continued to base our cross curricular activities around the story of the Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark. We were all very excited to end our week with our rainbow fun day which was enjoyed by everyone.

This week we have continued to base our cross curricular activities around the story of Handa’s Surprise. We also had a visit from PC Jeremy to help us to understand when we should call 999 and 101. He also talked about all of the different people who can help us. We are finishing the week with our sports day so we are keeping our fingers crossed that it stays dry.

18/6/21

We started off the week with releasing our butterflies. The children had mixed emotions around this as they were sad to say goodbye but happy to see them flying free. This weeks activities have all been based around the story of Handa’s Surprise. We have covered lots of skills on the Digital Competence Framework including making mini animations, guiding the Bee-Bots around Handa’s village and being human Bee-Bots on our yard. All of the children looked amazing wearing something red for Wales/Velindre day on Wednesday too.

Please remember to send in your child’s reading books on Mondays and also continue to practice their spellings at home in addition to their phonics as this will help them with their reading and writing. The children are enjoying reciting their number bond song so please also continue to learn this at home along with reinforcing counting and number recognition where ever you are.

All children have settled well after the week off and were very excited to see their friends. This week we have based our cross curricular activities around the story of the Very Hungry Caterpillar. They were also very excited to see how our caterpillars had developed and we were lucky enough to capture one of the five hatching on camera.

28/5/21

We have reached the end of the first half of the summer term and the sun has finally made an appearance. ๐Ÿ˜Š This week we have continued completing cross curricular activities around Jack and the Beanstalk in addition to reinforcing that there are two sides to every story through the giant’s version of what happened.

We also took part in the Race for Life and all of the children were amazing and did not give up until they had completed their laps. We were so proud of them! We were also glad to see the sun for our last scooter skills session and it is lovely to see how their confidence has grown because of these sessions. They can still use their scooters and bikes every day at breaktimes as long as they have an helmet in school.

The children will be bringing home their sunflowers that they planted so that they can continue to watch them grown at home. We will also be sharing adventures of our caterpillars on our Team page as they develop!

We have an Inset day on Monday 7th June so please remember to send in your child’s reading books on Tuesday 8th June for that week only. Please also continue to practice their spellings at home in addition to their phonics as this will help them with their reading and writing along with their number bond rhyme.

Another busy week. It has been lovely to catch up with you for our parent consultation calls. We have reassessed the children’s sound knowledge and copies of these have been sent home in their reading packs. We have also sent home another copy of reception high frequency words and our number bonds rhyme.

Unfortunately, we were not able to carry out our scooter training session this week due to the weather so we are looking forward to our last session next week. They can still use their scooters and bikes every day at breaktimes as long as they have an helmet in school.

Please also remember to send in your child’s reading books on Monday so that we can quarantine them before sending them back home on Thursday. Please also continue to practice their spellings at home in addition to their phonics as this will help them with their reading and writing.

Race for Life has been rescheduled for Tuesday where children can wear pink or blue or a combination of both! On Friday we will end the half term with the PTA Rebel for a Day event.

This week we have been completing activities based around Noah’s Ark. This has included lots of cross curricular activities including counting in 2s, enhancing our cutting skills, carrying out a science experiment to make an ark that would float for the plastic animals and colour mixing to make rainbows. 

We have also continued with our Thursday scooter training sessions so please continue to bring them in. They can use their scooters and bikes every day at breaktimes as long as they have an helmet in school.

We have had a short but busy week! This week we have been completing activities based around Old MacDonald’s farm linking in with the visit we had from Greenmeadow farm last week. This has helped us to name and talk about some of the animals that live in Wales linking with one of our topic questions. We have also continued with our Thursday scooter training sessions.

We have had another busy week! We have been completing activities based around the Big Pedal including scooter training. We had a virtual visit from Greenmeadow farm and also took part in a street dance workshop as part of International Dance Day. We also made a class poster to support Allergy Awareness Week.

Next week we have a short week with a bank holiday on Monday and an Inset day on Tuesday. Could you please send in reading books on Wednesday just for next week so that we can get them back out to you on Friday. We will also be continuing with scooter training on Thursdays for the rest of the half term too.

This week we have been again focusing on friendships and social skills in addition to finding out how we can help our planet whilst linking it in with Earth day. We have done this through completing cross curricular activities including literacy and numeracy activities based around the story of the Messy Magpie. The children have enjoyed taking part in activities around recycling and were very excited when they spotted the recycling lorry in Coychurch. They were very eager to share what the signs on the lorry stood for. They have also been learning a song about recycling too which is on our class teams page!  Our class Eco warriors Ezra and Nia are now on a mission to ensure that everything is placed in the correct bins! The children have also taken part in scooter training this week and will continuing next week so please send in their scooter and helmet if they have one on Thursday.

We are also working on our Welsh language patterns and now have our own class Criw Cymraeg. Llongyfarchiadau Ella, Nimi-Rose, Hadley and Rhys!

We have had a busy but enjoyable first week back. All the children have settled back in well and have enjoyed socialising with their friends. The weather hasn’t been to bad too!

This week we have been focusing on friendships and social skills. We have done this through completing cross curricular activities including literacy and numeracy activities based around the story of Starry-Eyed Stan reinforcing the importance of relationships in particular friendship. The children have thoroughly enjoyed these actives in particular following one, two and three step instructions to draw a sea creature. We have also been revising our Welsh knowledge such as using patterns such as Pwy wyt ti and Sut wyt ti? in addition to using our incidental welsh for greetings, colours, numbers and in songs. We will be continuing with these patterns next week too.

Croeso! Welcome back to the Summer term. We hope you had a lovely Easter break and are ready for the busy term. This term our topic is Planet Earth. The topic will contain lots of opportunities for your child to learn about the planet and how they can help it in addition to learning about some different animals and countries. More information can be found in the medium-term planning overview below. We have also added some new apps relating to our topic to the list below so please feel free to explore these at home.

 

Please also remember to send in your child’s reading book and diary on a Monday so that we can quarantine them before sending them back home on a Thursday. Spelling tests will continue to take place on a Thursday so please also remember to check the weekly planning for their new words.

Spring Term 2020 Weekly Updates

We have reached the end of the Spring term. You have been amazing throughout this strange period and we are so proud of you all!

This week we have been completing Easter themed activities and we hope that you like your cards and crafts that the children have made. We have also recorded some Easter songs and have added them to the class materials folder on our class team page.

We have also completed our Speech link, Language link and WellComm Spring assessments and have sent the interventions that we will be using in school to the children’s HWB accounts if they were needed.

Don’t forget we have an Inset day tomorrow (Friday 26th March) where all staff will be taking part in First Aid training.

Have a lovely peaceful Easter and we look forward to welcoming you all back after the Easter break.

We are so proud of all of the children. They have all settled well and are trying their best. In numeracy this week we have been learning all about subtraction. We have been completing lots of practical and even some recorded activities to help us to understand this concept. We also looked at the sounds that we have been learning and an update on these and Reception high frequency words have been glued inside their reading diaries.  Today as part of our forest school session we will be making bird houses out of recycled materials. We will also finish planting bulbs in our outside areas in addition to designing faces with red noses to celebrate Comic Relief.

Next week is the last week of the Spring term. We will completing lots of activities relating to Easter and we have an Inset day on the Friday.

This week we having been learning about Commonwealth Day and found out that even though we lived in Wales we are also part of the United Kingdom. We talked about how everyone is different and how important it is that we treat everyone fairly. We spoke about International Women’s day too. Our numeracy this week has all been based around halving and we have completed lots of different activities both inside and outside the classroom to help us with this. We also practised our threading skills on our Mother’s Day cards and we hope that you like the pebble that the children decorated using their fingers to put in your garden.

We started our busy week reminding ourselves why we celebrate St David’s day. We all looked amazing in our Welsh costumes/rugby jersey /something red that we wore for St David’s day. We have been busy completing lots of activities relating to St David’s day. We have added some of our songs to our class teams page for you to listen to at home.

We learned about Fairtrade and now know what symbol to look for when we are allowed to go shopping.

On Thursday the children looked amazing dressed in their World Book Day costumes. We decided to celebrate World Book Day by completing activities around our favourite class story ZOG.

As part of the Litterless challenge we went on a litter hunt around our yard and did not find any litter. Your challenge is to look around street and see what you can find and share pictures with us on teams.

We have had a busy week welcoming everyone back into school ๐Ÿ˜Š. Everyone has had great fun being back with their friends and settled well. As part of our welcome back activities this week we have listened to the story of the Gingerbread Man and had great fun acting it out. We also completed lots of activities relating to it. As it is St David’s day on Monday we also talked about and looked at different castles in Wales and then painted our own castles.

We have another busy week planned for next week. On Monday the children can wear their Welsh costumes/rugby jersey /something red for St David’s day. We will be recording some of our Welsh songs and adding them onto our class team page. On Thursday the children can dress up for World Book day but please do not feel that you have to go out and buy something.

We have reached the end of the first half-term of the year which has been different for us all. Well done again for all your hard work and engagement this half-term. We fully understand how difficult it has been juggling home life, home schooling with home working. We are looking forward to welcoming the children back on Monday 22nd February as although it has been lovely engaging with them on our Teams calls it is not the same as seeing them in person. Can you also please return reading books back on the Monday.

Our Autumn Topic is - All About Me - mind, body and soul.

This topic focuses on health and wellbeing and contains lots ofโ€ฏopportunities forโ€ฏyourโ€ฏchild to learn aboutโ€ฏthemselves, their family and their friends. Please see the medium-term planning overview below for some examples of the learning that will be taking place.โ€ฏThis terms home task is toโ€ฏcomplete the ‘All about me!’ template which will be emailed to your child’s HWB account. This can then be emailed back to admin (school office) so that we can print them out and display them inside our classroom.

We would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a prosperous new year. Although Christmas is going to be different for us all this year, we hope you all manage to get some relaxing times with your families.

Please use the resource pack which was sent home on Friday and also see the planning (week 14) below and on our class Team page. Digital copies of the pack are also available on our class Team page. In addition to this please free feel to visit our online platforms or use any of the additional resources that are already on our class Teams page.

This week we have had a visit for the virtual elf, virtual pantomime, our class Christmas production and Christmas Dinner. If you would like to watch the virtual elf and pantomime there are links on our class Team page.

We hope you enjoyed our Christmas production that has been added to our class Team page. The children were brilliant and completely ignored all the noise going on outside – workmen hammering and sawing and a tree being cut down. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Today the children have been sent home with a pack. Inside this pack are all the Christmas crafts that they have made in school. Also included are sheets that we will be using next week in school and as part of our ‘blended learning’. We have included sheets for the whole week in case your child is not in school. These are also available as digital copies along with the weekly planning in the files section of our class Teams page. Please could all work be stuck into the home learning books which have previously been sent home. Please also feel free to explore any of the online platforms during the Christmas period if you so wish.

This week the children have enjoyed taking part in activities connected to our Digital Competence Rich Task based around the visit from Sam the elf. Some of these activities have included sending an email to Santa, using I-movie to make a video, working with their friends to guide our electronic toys around our classroom and our yard. The children have also been using JIT packages on HWB such as J2data and Jit5. We have also recapped on how to stay safe online and share our Internet Safety song with Sam the elf. They have enjoyed exploring our Santa’s workshop and Christmas post office role play areas.

 

We also took part in a virtual lesson with Warburtons and learned how to make bread. The recipe and instructions have been added to the Files section in our class Team in case you want to have a go. If you do, can you please share your creations on our Team page. ๐Ÿ˜Š

 

On Tuesday 8th December the children will need to wear their costumes into school. They will stay in them all day so will not need a change of clothes. If you haven’t been able to get a costume can you please let us know as soon as possible.

 

On Wednesday 9th December the children will be having their Christmas dinner in school. We will also be accessing the virtual pantomime which has been paid for by the PTA. The children will be able to wear Christmas jumpers/Christmas clothes on this day.

 

Reception Spelling words to be tested on the 9th December are – low, blow, glow, flow, show, slow, throw, below. We will also continue to practise these words in school throughout the week.

This week we have been taking part in activities connected to Switch Off Fortnight. Our Eco monitors Ezra and Nia have been busy making sure that we don’t leave the lights on when we leave the room.

Reception Spelling words to be tested on the 3rd December are – sigh, high, might, sight, tight, fright, tonight, flight, night. We will also continue to practise these words in school throughout the week.

Next week we will be completing a Digital Competence Rich Task based around the visit of Sam the Elf. More details of this are included with our planning on our class teams page. It will start with a letter from Santa tomorrow and I am sure that the children will be very eager to share the news with you.

It has been lovely to welcome all the children back after our half-term break. This week we have been focusing on citizenship in particular staying safe online. We have also completed lots of activities relating to Bonfire night and know how to stay safe around fireworks.

I am looking forward to catching up with you all by telephone over the next two weeks for our 10-minute virtual parents evening. I will also shortly be sending home letters detailing the costumes that the children will require for our class Christmas performance. If you have issues accessing these, can you please let us know as soon as possible. We will also be attaching the Christmas songs to the letter and adding them on our Teams page.

What a busy end to our first half term! This week we have been learning all about Harvest and completing activities relating to it. We have recorded a little performance for you which we have shared on our Teams class page. We have also had our photographs taken and will finish the week with a crazy hair day!

HOMEWORK - A new homework grid has been added below and to the files section of our Teams page for your child to complete over the next half term.

 

Please read with your child over the half term break and return their reading book and diary on Monday 2nd November. Books cannot be accepted on any other day due to quarantine rules.  Please also remember to check your child’s HWB emails as some activities may have been sent there.

 

Finally, our last Pori Drwy Stori Rhyme for after half term is a poem -I eat my peas with honey.

This week we have taken part in Global Hand Washing Day and have been practising writing our numbers using the correct formations in addition to completing various counting activities.

Your child has now been given a blank exercise book, which should be kept at home in case of school/class closure. We have also signed up to the 10ticks Mental Maths website and have included your child’s passwords inside these books along with another copy of their passwords cards for you to explore. More information regarding 10ticks has been added to the files section of our class team page along with further literacy and numeracy resources to support your child.

Reception Spelling words to be tested 22nd October – the, to, no, go, in, into, he, she, dog, was.

All children have now been given a reading book so please read with your child as much as possible and return it to school on Monday along with their reading diary. Books cannot be accepted on any other day due to quarantine rules. Please continue to use Oxford Reading Buddy online during the period where your child does not have a book at home. We will be sending books home again on Thursday.

Complete sections of Speech link/Language link/Wellcomm activities have now been sent to individual children’s HWB email addresses so please remember to check your child’s HWB email.

Next week we will be celebrating Harvest. We will be collecting for the local food bank so from Monday your child can bring in donations if you so wish. Individual class photos will take place on Tuesday. We will also be celebrating Harvest within our classroom and sharing it with you on our class teams page. On Friday we will be having a wear your own clothes and make your hair as crazy as possible day. The PTA have suggested a donation of a £1 and no Halloween costumes or wigs are to be worn.

Finally, our Pori Drwy Stori Rhyme for next week is Head shoulders knees and toes. The children have also been learning this in Welsh in class ๐Ÿ˜Š

A huge thank you to all that have sent in their home tasks. Our topic wall is looking amazing! Here are some changes that are taking place next week.

From next week we will be sending home one reading book with your child. This will be sent home on Thursday and should be returned on Monday. Due to having to quarantine the books, we will not be able to accept any reading books on any other day. Please practice the book along with using Oxford Reading online. If you have any reading books still at home could you please also send these back on Monday. Your child will also be bringing home a blank exercise book, which should be kept in case of school/class closure.

Harvest songs have been placed below and in the Files section of our Teams page in the class materials folder. Please help your child to learn these. Also below and in the class materials folder you will see that we have now added a weekly planning folder where we will be adding the plans that your child is following in school each week.

All children have now been assessed and if your child needs a little support in a particular area, we will be emailing details of this and activities to your child’s HWB account. We will send out new activities every two weeks.

Reception spelling words for 15th October are:- I, go, up, be, we, me, at, a, am, can. Please help your child to learn to spell these words.

Finally, our Pori Drwy Stori Rhyme for next week is a poem called The Seasons. The children are enjoying in engaging in these sessions.

This week the children have enjoyed taking part in activities relating to Bike to School week. We have all enjoyed making the most of our outdoor areas.

The children have also taken part in the Pori Drwy Stori Challenge and next weeks rhyme will be – Hicori Dicori Doc. Don’t forget that the rhymes have also been uploaded into the files section of our class team in case you have misplaced the booklet. More rhymes can be found on the book trust website – booktrust.org.uk/poridrwystori.

Reception only spelling words for the 8th October are: - the, they, then, this, and, went.  Please help your child learn to read and spell these High Frequency words.

Reception children have also received copies of the words that they need to learn relating to their stage of reading. Please help your child to learn these in addition to continuing to use the Oxford Reading Buddy at home.

 Please send in your child’s home task if you have not yet done so.

We have had another busy week! All nursery children have settled well and are coping with full days ๐Ÿ˜Š.

We will be taking part in the Pori Drwy Stori Challenge starting next week. This will entail sharing songs and rhymes with your child to support their language and communication skills whilst developing their confidence.  Tomorrow your child will come home with a booklet which contains the songs and rhymes. We will only be focusing on one of these each week in school but please feel free to use the others at home. Next week’s rhyme will be – Ten fat sausages. We will also upload the rhymes that we will be focusing on at school to our Teams pages just in case the booklet gets lost. More rhymes can be found on the book trust website – booktrust.org.uk/poridrwystori.

Next week is Bike to School Week. The children will be able to use their bikes and scooters at breaktimes as long as they have a helmet in school. The children will only be able to use their own and not share them with their friends.

Hello Dosbarth 1! What a busy week it has been!  We have been lucky with the lovely sunshine too! Our nursery children have settled in lovely and we are looking forward to them staying all day from next week. All children have been sent their 'All About Me' sheets to complete. These have been sent to the children's HWB email addresses. Log in details and passwords can be found in the reading diary that has been sent home. Can you please complete these and send them back to us so that we can display them with the others. Reception have today been given the sounds that they need to practice in addition to reading using Oxford Reading Buddy.

Medium Term Planning Autumn 2020 - All About Me - mind, body and soul.

Class Routines in Dosbarth 1

 

  • School Times – The school bell will be rung at 8.45 am for reception children and 9:00 am for nursery children. All children will finish at 3:00 pm. Please use the designated drop off points and adhere to the social distancing guidelines and one way system.
  • Name Labels – Can you please ensure that all items of clothing and belongings including bags, shoes and water bottles are clearly labelled with your child’s name.  
  • Spare underwear/uniform – Nursery children, please ensure that your child has spare clearly labelled underwear in a nappy sack bag which can be hung on their pegs.  
  • PD – PD kit consists of black shorts/black jogging bottoms/black leggings and a house colour/white t-shirt. Your child’s house colours have been included on their password card inside their reading diary. PD will take place on Thursday and Friday. The children can wear their PD kit to school on these days. Please help your child to practise putting on and taking off their shoes and socks. 
  • Water bottle– Your child will need a bottle of water every day. We do not allow squash, flavoured water or fruit juices, as we are a healthy school.  Please ensure that the bottle can be refilled so that we can top it up if needed throughout the afternoon and is clearly labelled. This bottle will need to be taken home at the end of the day. 
  • Fruit – Your child will need a piece of fruit for their morning snack. Please ensure that their fruit/fruit box is clearly labelled. 
  • All Weathers– Due to the unpredictability of the Welsh weather can you please also ensure that your child also has sun cream on before coming into school. 
  • Passwords- Inside your child’s reading record we have included your child’s passwords for Oxford Reading Buddy – https://www.oxfordreadingbuddy.com/uk, Purple Mash – https://www.purplemash.com/Abacus  - https://www.activelearnprimary.co.uk/login and HWB - https://hwb.gov.wales/. 
  • Online Learning Platforms – We will be continuing to use our online learning platforms as part of our learning. It is important that your child is able to access these online platforms at home too. We will be setting up a new class Team page and will be sharing their homework and updates on there. Please see the attachment below showing you how to access Teams if you need to refer to it. If you have any problems accessing any of online platforms, please let us know. 
  • Reading – Using your child’s Oxford Reading Buddy password, your child has access to hundreds of books from the reading scheme. It is important for your child to access this as we currently are unable to send any reading books home. Please use the reading record that you have been given to record your child’s progress as they use the online books at home. The reading diary should be kept at home until further notice. 
  • Birthdays - We will celebrate your child’s birthday in class, but we do not allow birthday cakes/sweets etc. to share, as we are an accredited healthy school.   We also have a birthday Flip grid for your child to post about their special day. 
  • Flip grid  - Please see the instructions to access our Flip grid topics below. We have set up a show and tell page, birthday page and a Bore da page for the children to share their adventures with their friends whilst they are unable to bring things into school from home.
  • 1.Log into https://hwb.gov.wales/ 
  • 2.Click on Flipgrid - the green + sign. 
  • 3.Click on ‘Enter a Flip Code’ in the top left-hand corner. 
  • 4.Enter the code that you have been given on the letter that was with your child's reading record.
  • 5.You will then need to press Log in with Microsoft and re-enter your Hwb email details. 
  • 6.Once you are logged in you will be able to access the class grid and interact with your teacher and friends.  You may need to re-enter the code each time you log in. 
  • School website – We will update our class page on this website regularly with snapshots of our learning. Our website also contains lots of information about our school and our admin team also post updates and important information here too.  
  • We will not be available to address any queries during drop off and pick up times due to social distancing guidance.
