Hydref/Autumn Term 2026

Croeso yn ol! Welcome back to the new school year! We hope you have all had a wonderful summer and are excited for the learning experiences and opportunities ahead. All children have access to our class Seesaw, where we share resources to support your child at home, including our termly planning overview letter and homework. We have also included some key information about our class below.

Autumn Term Concept - This term, Class 5 will be exploring the exciting topic "Power. How can power change the world around us?" Children will investigate different types of power, from the power people have to make decisions in communities and governments, to the power of campaigns, protests and social movements to bring about change. Through stories, discussions and research, pupils will learn about democracy in Wales, influential figures who challenged unfairness, and current issues such as environmental action and equality. In science, they will explore energy, where it comes from and how access to energy affects people's lives around the world. Throughout the topic, children will develop their literacy, digital and creative skills by creating persuasive writing, campaign materials, videos and songs, encouraging them to think critically about how power can be used positively and responsibly to make a difference in the world.

PD – PD kit consists of black shorts/black jogging bottoms/black leggings, and a house colour or plain white T-shirt. We discourage wearing items with large logos. Our PD day will be on a Tuesday; the children can wear their PD kit on this day. If they need to wear their PD kit on another day, we will let you know.

Homework – In addition to daily reading, spelling and times table practice, activities will be added through Purple Maths, Abacus and Seesaw to consolidate what we have been learning in class. There may also be occasions where a paper activity will be given to further support your child. We will also be sharing a project to be completed over half-term that your child can present/share with the class on their return.

Spelling- Spelling words will be given on a Monday and tested on a Friday. These words will be used throughout the week as part of our FFT spelling scheme. Please help your child learn these at home.

Reading – All children will read daily as part of our FFT scheme. They will also be given a reading book correlating with their reading age. Please listen to your child read this book at home and record their progress in their reading diaries.
